Kemet, located along the Nile River (the original home of many Central-West African groups before they began migrating in a western and southernly direction), is the name the Ancient ‘Egyptians’ used to refer to their civilization and land. The people who lived in Ancient ‘Egypt’ did not refer to their land as Egypt. Egypt, which comes from Aigyptos, is the name the Greeks used to refer to the land of Kemet. Therefore, the correct name for this historic civilization is Kemet.

Kemet means ‘The Black Land’ referring to the rich, fertile, and dark soil of the land as well as the darker skin tones of the people.

Below are images the people of Kemet illustriously painted, on the walls of their magnificent buildings, of themselves.
